IE7, from Beta2 to Beta2 (Q&A) misc

Public versions of Microsoft IE7 Beta2 were released as follows:
  • March 20: IE7 Beta2 Preview, Version.Build 7.0.5335.5
  • April 24: IE7 Beta2, Version.Build 7.0.5346.5
What's the big deal then?

From Beta2 "Preview" to Beta2... "Full".

What's new? Where's the changelog posted?
Nowhere. This is Microsoft, remember?
    To quote:
« There is not going to be a changelist. We do not compile these internally and we have done a lot of general bug fixes over the last month. A laundry list of bug titles would not be useful.

This came up when we updated the preview last as well.

Why do the fonts look that bad? ClearType was supposed to enhance viewing, not to make everything look blurry. (In the Beta2 Preview, there was no way to turn this off.)
Because Microsoft wants it so. But now you can get rid of the "over-antialiasing".
    To quote:
« You should try turning off ClearType. In the Advanced Tab of your Internet Options in IE, there is a "Use ClearType" setting in the Multimedia area. Uncheck that.

Why does turning off "ClearType" in Internet Options still not turn it off in Outlook?
Good question.

Why this beta still does not offer me the ability to set a minimum text size?
Was this a question? 'Cause I couldn't see it.

Why can't I see the tabs?
Try this fix: Unpack IE7BETA2-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe (e.g. with WinRAR). Go to the "update" folder. Run "xmllitesetup.exe" (KB915865). It may help.

How do I move the address bar below the menu bar?
Regedit hack:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser]
"ITBar7Position"=dword:00000001

When I installed IE7, the embedded media files (video or audio, played by Media Player embedded in the browser) stopped playing in the browser. Any ideas about this?
Yep. See this.

Any nice bugs, besides the 100% CPU?
Try one of these:
  • Make a textarea of 100% width within a div container of 50% width.
Looks fine, right? Try typing in it.
The textarea extends to 100% of the page, beyond the container!
  • Setting for innerHTML a full option (selection) list fails if the element whose innerHTML is to be modified is within a table.
