It was just too obvious it will pass!
I've linked on 6/6 to the news about Sweden (Being) On Verge of Passing Sweeping Wiretap Plan. Silence followed... (un ange passa).
It was not earlier that yesterday that the hasty little boys from The Register claimed victory: Swedish parliament rejects snoop everyone law. Obviously, it was not the case: it was only a postponement, and some other news reports were getting it right (it's too late to provide now with links, as things have changed since).
The Local – Sweden's News In English has had a good coverage of what was going in the meantime: Surveillance protesters gather outside Riksdag (further links inside). Unfortunately, this was all useless. Big Brother wins!
The Local: 'Yes' to surveillance law.
Deutsche Welle: Swedish Government Clears Hurdles to Pass Surveillance Bill: «The bill narrowly passed with 143 votes in favour, 138 opposed and one parliamentarian abstaining. ... The new law, set to take effect on Jan. 1, 2009, will enable the military National Defense Radio Establishment (FRA) to monitor Swedes' Internet usage as well as content from e-mails, phone calls and text messages. The legislation requires all telecom operators in Sweden to bring their systems into line with FRA's surveillance system.»
The Register: Sweden ushers in bugging for all – Amended bill voted through.
What better proof do you need to admit that the current so-called democratic system is rotten worldwide, and that the politicians, no matter from what parties, are NEVER doing anything for the common interest, but only for their self-maintaining in power? Maybe Brian Martin was right, and demarchy would be the only way to bring the power to the people... Or maybe all the political parties in all the countries should be dissolved and everybody who has ever been elected should be forbidden to further participate for the next 20 years — we need a new Establishment, not this worldwide fascist mafia who might have very well orchestrated 9/11 just to have a ground to impose the Homeland Security, the long detentions without charges (in UK too), the wiretapping...
Now in Sweden too! Enjoy the 21st century democracy!
