Moi, je hais la climatisation. Au bureau, je ne peux pas même ouvrir les fenêtres, et il y aurait été possible de ne pas avoir besoin de l’aide de la technique au moins quelques mois par année. Dans le printemps et dans l’automne, il n’y a pas besoin de chauffage, ni de refroidissement pourvu que pour le renouvellement de l’air les fenêtres puissent s’ouvrir !

Savez-vous que — selon Wikipédia — les standards américains de l’ASHRAE ont été modifiés en 1973 en réponse à la crise du pétrole pour n’exiger qu’une ventilation de 2,37 l/s par personne au lieu de 4.76 l/s, et cela avait conduit au syndrome du bâtiment malsain ? Aujourd’hui, les standards prévoient plutôt un débit de ventilation de 9.2 l/s, mais vu la crise actuelle… allons-nous devenir des victimes impuissantes des bâtiments modernes hyper-high-tech quand la technique tombe en panne ?

Figurez-vous, apparemment il n’y a aucune association de lutte contre la climatisation industrielle des bâtiments. Serais-je le seul à haïr la technologie de la climatisation energophage, bruiteuse et débile ?

E totuşi drăguţ că mai există şi tineret care se mai gândeşte şi la altceva decât cum să facă afaceri bănoase ori care mai este ultimul model de iPhone.

Din “Egoismul” uman şi reflexul de a împărţi:

Odată cu deţinerea în proprietate de bunuri materiale şi de identificarea acestora cu statutul omului în societate, apare adesea lăcomia. Oamenii au ajuns să-şi dorească cât mai mult pământ, pentru a putea să-şi producă cât mai multă hrană, mult mai multă decât cantitatea de care ar avea nevoie pentru a trăi liniştit, hrană pentru care a ajuns să muncească tot mai mult. Odată cu munca grea depusă pentru obţinerea hranei, oamenilor nu le-a mai fost aşa de uşor să împartă din ce aveau, din ce produceau.

La fel se întâmplă şi în societatea modernă. Muncim cel puțin 8 ore pe zi pentru a câştiga banii de care avem nevoie să mâncăm, să ne plătim adăpostul, să ne încălzim, să ne îmbrăcăm, să ne mobilăm casele, să ne cumpărăm maşini, să plătim benzina, să cumpărăm aparatură scumpă, sa fim “în rând cu lumea”. Toate astea ca să câştigăm un statut, pentru a “creşte în societate” şi de a consuma şi mai mult timp şi bani pentru a alimenta nevoile crescânde. Suntem mereu obosiți şi nemulţumiţi, trăim cu impresia indusă de societate că niciodată nu e destul cât avem, că avem nevoie de mai mult. Şi atunci da, putem spune că suntem lacomi, şi că suntem egoişti. Ajunşi aşa, ne e greu să împărţim din tot ce deţinem, iar când o facem, ne umflăm în pene şi ne numim “oameni caritabili”.

Dar, repet, nu cred că omul — ca specie — e lacom, ci omul culturii noastre, care, fără să fie conştient, nu mai ştie să trăiască altfel decât aşa cum îi dictează cultura. Oportunismul, este, de asemenea, o caracteristică a omului, dar şi a oricărei specii vii: datorită oportunismului este posibilă adaptarea în condiţiile de schimbare continuă şi deci şi evoluţia. Lăcomia, în schimb, nu e firească în lumea naturală. Animalele şi plantele nu strâng mai mult decât au nevoie. Îşi fac rezerve, provizii, pentru mai târziu, pentru când resursele de hrană sau apă sunt mai puţine, dar niciodată nu vor fi rezerve doar de dragul de a avea, iar acele provizii nu vor fi, cu siguranţă, irosite inutil.

N-am nimic cu Tudor Galoş. Este băiat deştept, lucrează la Microsoft România, ceva cu Windows Business Group Lead, sau vânzări, sau marketing, sau dracu’ ştie, că eu sunt marxist şi mie poziţiile astea mi se par inutile (dacă nu este nevoie de mai multe pachete de Windows şi Office, foarte bine, să nu se vândă, care-i treaba, că nu-şi face Redmondu’ profiturile? mă doare’n pulă! ei, da, că cică n-ar mai avea bani de “softuer divelopmănt” fără vânzări, ete rahat), şi omul este destul de complex judecând după blogul său.

Sigur, gusturile sale nu-s şi ale mele, dar asta nu se pune. Ce se pune este că n-am înţeles din postarea lui mai veche despre Windows 7 Romanian cam cât dracu’ ar fi trebui să coste versiunea Home Premium: 120 sau 200 de euro? Cu sau fără TVA? Deci habar n-avea omul (dar cine să aibă habar, popa de la biserică?). Între timp, cică Redmondu’ s-a căcat în ventilator şi a zis că versiunea europeană cu “E” în nume şi fără MSIE nu o să mai existe (aşa o fi? dacă se schimbă schimbarea?), deci preţurile “anunţate” (sanchi, anunţate, dacă alea-s preţuri anunţate, cum or fi alea neanunţate?) nu mai sunt valabile, dar nu se cunosc alea finale. După cum vă spuneam, nu ştiu ce glandul calului fac ăştia de la divizia de bişniţă a muciînsoft, că cod nu scriu, buguri nu rezolvă, de vândut poate or vinde Dynamics (că tot este documentat pula pe site, aşa că musai să-ţi explice un “consultant” ce şi cum), şi nici de preţuri nu ştiu până nu le vine XLS-ul, iar când le-o veni XLS-ul de la HQ… de ce mai e nevoie de băieţii ăştia?

În fine, via articolul “Windows 7 to Cost Just Half the US Price in the UK”, am aflat că dacă mă duc aicea la Amazon UK pă sait, pot să precomand Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (cu ieşire pe 22 octombrie, şi ce dacă e în engleză şi nu în română, doar nu-s oligofren) pentru (numa’) 65 de lire (IVA incluido), ceea ce face cam 75,50 euroi!

Ah, că cică ăsta este pentru UK? Ia aruncaţi un ochişor acilea, unde la “Software” zice că se poate expedia către: «United Kingdom (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales), Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland (Republic of), Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.»

Here’s a very prolific Belgian graphical artist who has hundreds of different œuvres on Flicker: Ben Heine. Many of them are available at large size too, should you want to use them as wallpapers. In a single page (or by sets), you can watch them on Flickriver too.

And here’s a visual search engine concentrator I discovered by accident: Spezify. Extremely funny at times, just search for something.

A number of years ago (I can’t remember when), I guess there was a trick, a hack or a special offer for a limited time (or something I can’t remember of) that allowed to some users of Yahoo! Mail (possibly only the non-US ones, such as the users of Yahoo! Canada, Yahoo! UK, Yahoo! France, etc.) to enable the POP3/SMTP access to their account… for free, as opposed to the paying Yahoo! Mail Plus.

As my primary Yahoo! account is on Yahoo! Canada (I can’t remember why I did that, but I practically abandoned two older Yahoo.com accounts because of the spam), I was able to get the Mail Plus functionality for free.

Today, it still works. I can use Sylpheed to manage my Yahoo! Mail Canada account:

Am dat peste ea din întâmplare, la un chioşc Rodipet, unul care se întâmplă să afişeze o serie impresionantă de reviste literar-culturale despre care nu ştiam că mai există, pe care nu le cumpără nimeni, dar care trezesc în mine nostalgii comunistoide.

“Ea” este revista Noua literatură numărul 25, şi mă şi mir că se difuzează într-o oarecare măsură, căci formatul ales este nepractic prin dimensiuni — aproximativ A3, pe hârtie albă, groasă. Oricum, nu cred c-am mai văzut-o până acum.

Într-o lume normală (gândeşte socialistul din mine), o astfel de revistă ar fi provocat juisanţe copioase. În cea de astăzi, cu creierii beliţi între reclamele şi tocşourile de la tembelizor, ringtonurile telefoanelor mobile ale celorlalţi călători din autobuz, claxoanele imbecililor şi manelele vecinilor, cum dracu’ să-ţi mai fie naturelul simţitor?

Dară revista e bestială, atât prin format, cât şi prin conţinut. Şi, parol, în ea publică lume bună. Nu’ş cum dracu’ de este editată taman de Uniunea Scriitorilor, şi cine le-o da mălaiul, că la 2 lei exemplarul se vinde în pierdere.

Ca să convingem prin puterea exemplului, mereţi domniile mneavoastră pe situl revistei (altminteri mort), unde găsiţi ediţiile PDF ale numerelor de la 1 la 21, la vreo 4-5 mega bucata. Sper să mai adauge şi pe viitor…

Otherwise, the relaunched Odiecolon.repo is meant to be used as an independent repo, that is without EPEL, without RPMforge, without RPM Fusion. I hope it’s still compatible with EPEL, but I have now stopped using EPEL. Yup.

I am particularly interested in bug/conflict/“RPM hell” or success reports for:

• clean installations of CentOS 5.3, Scientific Linux 5.3, StartCom-AS 5.0.3, with the latest updates applied;
• systems that have used one or more of EPEL, RPMforge, RPM Fusion in the past and that have performed the indicated or other reasonable steps to clean the non-official packages, yet they experience some kind of inconveniencies with Odiecolon.repo v2;
• systems that use other 3rd-party repos (other than ElRepo and Adobe’s).

I lack testing machines, and I don’t use virtual machines, so if you run into trouble, you know why this happens. Don’t shoot the piano player…

There is such a thing. Really. It’s part of the Microsoft DevLab Projects and it’s intended to corrupt the youngsters: Microsoft Small Basic.

Surprisingly, it’s not popular in the media. For once, Microsoft has been quiet on this “new, simplified reimplementation of Basic” that runs on .NET. I’ve found about it by chance, from the French magazine Micro Hebdo nº 585.

ASUS has released WL-330gE in 2007, and they’re so stupid that two years later, it’s still not easily available on some markets. Well, this kind of stupidity is not a surprise: some time ago I was reading of a Nokia phone model that was only manufactured for 9 months, and they simply discontinued a brand-new design because they decided it was “obsolete”, not because it wasn’t selling! (Maybe the other models weren’t selling when people were offered a better choice, eh?)

What is WL-330gE? It’s not just a (tiny!) portable wireless access point, it’s a 4-in-1 device: Access Point, Ethernet Adapter, Gateway and Universal Repeater. And the “E” at the end means it’s Ethernet based (WL-330g was USB-based), yet it can be powered from the USB, should you decide not to use the mains adapter.

There is a very neat presentation of the device here (from 2008), a very detailed one here (May 2009), and Russian people might enjoy this one.

First of all, this device does have aeration holes, so it won’t melt down like the WL-520gV2 reportedly used to do.

Not on production systems, that is.
